Performance - adult protection

Last updated | 01/10/2008

Why is it important?

Adult protection is a key function of community care. Perth and Kinross Council have a joint protocol with NHS Tayside and Tayside Police to protect vulnerable adults and the introduction of the Adult Support and Protection Bill puts this requirement on a statutory footing.

How is Perth and Kinross doing?

We work in partnership to support and protect adults.  Every person receives a risk assessment and staff work together across agencies to ensure that appropriate action is taken to support those in need.

What influences performance?

All adult protection referrals are investigated.  Many of these are highly complex and so it is not always possible to fully investigate within the target timescales.  However, the key priority is always to protect the individual and a risk assessment is always undertaken to ensure this is the case.  In cases where the target deadline is not met, this is often due to difficulties in ensuring all the key individuals from different agencies are available at the same time.

What is Perth & Kinross Council's role?

Perth and Kinross are usually the lead agency in any investigation. Investigations are multi-agency, possibly involving up to 10-12 people to ensure that all the relevant agencies, expertise and information are available.   Risk assessments are completed to inform decisions made at case conferences.  Protection plans are drawn up to ensure that everything possible is done to manage identified risks, thus keeping people safe from recurring incidents of abuse.
