Gold Award Winner - Greyfriars House
Greyfriars House is the Council’s hostel in Perth that
provides temporary accommodation for homeless people. Staff
from the hostel and the Council’s Homeless Service identified
and carried out a project to meet the increasing demands made on
the
service, and to benefit service users.
The project had two key elements, to improve the physical
conditions of the hostel and to introduce personalised support and
care services to hostel residents. It supports the
Council’s aims to provide a safe, secure and welcoming
environment, and healthy, caring communities. The improvement
programme has involved a full refurbishment of the interior with
new kitchens, common room, and office accommodation.
Moreover, staff are now providing a unique service, that puts
Greyfriars and its residents at the hub of a network of support,
care, advocacy and counselling. So, instead of residents
having to go to services, services go to residents in the hostel,
which helps ensure that they are participating in their support
programmes.
