How do the elections affect me?
Local government (your council) elections will decide who the councillors will be for Perth & Kinross Council.
Councils (local authorities) are responsible for providing a great range of services that touch on every aspect of your life, such as: nurseries, schools, parks, refuse collection, town planning, economic development, social services, housing services, road maintenance and libraries.
Councils depend on council tax paid by residents to fund these services.
By voting in the local government elections, you will have a say in who makes decisions on how your council tax is spent and the services you receive from Perth & Kinross Council.
By voting in the Scottish Parliament elections you will help decide who will represent residents of Perth and Kinross in the Scottish Parliament, as Constituency Members of Parliament (MSPs) for the Perth and North Tayside constituencies and regional MSPs for the regional area of mid-Shetland and Fife. The Scottish Parliament decides on matters that include education, health, the environment, transport, tourism and economic development.
