Non-elected members on the Perth Prison Visiting Committee have been elected until June 2011, with the potential of a further offer of a 4-year reappointment after this, as per the Association of Visiting Committee (AVC) recruitment guidelines.

The tenure of the appointments recommended by the AVC was set with the intention that they coincide with Scottish Local Government elections.  Until the outcome of the Scottish Government's consultation on the future of independent monitoring of prisons is known, to accord with this, the Council is asked to agree that these appointments be extended to June 2012, with the potential they may be re-appointed thereafter for a five-year term.
