Perth & Kinross Council has a statutory duty to carry out the funeral of anyone who has died or been found dead in its area where it appears no suitable arrangements have been or are being made. These are often termed "Public Health" funerals.

If the Council are not aware of any next of kin and the deceased was intestate, then the National Ultimus Haeres Unit are notified. Deaths in Scotland are not reported to the treasury solicitor or the Duchy of Cornwall or Lancaster.

Question:

How many public health funerals have been carried out by Perth & Kinross Council since 1 January 2010 when there was no known next of kin and the deceased was intestate?

Answer:

None, as at 30 April 2012.

No information has been passed to the National Ultimus Haeres Unit or QLTR.  Unclaimed estates are advertised in the local and national press by the QLTR who publish lists on the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Services website.
