CHILDMINDING as a career option
Childminding is a rewarding career which provides opportunities
for developing new skills and working towards qualifications.
Becoming a childminder would give you a chance to:
- contribute to children's development and learning
- become self employed and run your own home-based business
- provide a valuable service for your local community
Information on childminding is available on the Care Commission
and Scottish Childminding Association websites.
The Childcare Strategy Team in Perth & Kinross have also
designed a booklet giving the answers to some common questions
about childminding to help you decide whether this might be the
career opportunity you have been looking for.

Pre Registration training courses
The Team also runs Pre Registration training courses which are
designed to give you all the information you need to get started as
a childminder, but would be equally useful if you just want to know
more about what is involved. Topics covered
include:
- How to register with the Care Commission
- Advice on running your own business
- Record Keeping
- Policies and Procedures

- National Care Standards
- The Inspection Process
- Legal Requirements
- Working with children and parents

Courses, which run every few months, consist of five sessions
each lasting two and a half to three hours. Course times
alternate between mornings and evenings to give as many people as
possible the opportunity to attend.
The next courses are planned for
Friday
mornings 3,
10, 17, 24 September and 1 October 2010 from 9:30 am to
12:30 pm
Wednesday evenings 27 October and 3,
10, 17, 24 November from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm
Courses take place in the Community Wing of Perth Grammar
