Community Capacity Building in Highland Perthshire

The Community Capacity Worker for Highland Perthshire is based in the Birnam Institute in Birnam, Dunkeld.  The Highland Perthshire area covers more than 1,000 square miles of Perth and Kinross and includes the larger communities of Dunkeld and Birnam, Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and the areas surrounding them, the communities bordering the A9 as far as Calvine in the north and Kinloch Rannoch and Rannoch Station in the west.

It is the Capacity Worker's job to help individuals, groups and organisations to identify the issues affecting their communities and to support them in improving the quality of life in those areas.

Help and support comes in a variety of forms:

  • Where and how to access funding
  • Help with grant application forms
  • Advice and guidance on setting up a group
  • Constitutions
  • Planning and evaluating what your group does
  • Where to get further help

Some groups have been supported to:

  • Set up a Community Development Trust
  • Apply for funding
  • Consult the rest of the community about their ideas
  • Plan events

You and your group could get:

  • access to training
  • advice and guidance on a way forward
  • funding information
  • committee skills

The Highland Perthshire Community Learning and Development Partnership comprises representatives from community groups and statutory bodies.  Its current Action Plan covers work planned and ongoing with young people, adults and community groups and organisations.

If you would like help or advice for yourself or your group contact your local Capacity Worker.
