Community Learning and Development - What Is It?
It is about developing programmes and activities to support
individuals and groups in learning and in being actively
involved in their communities.
The programmes and activities are developed with the participants
and the community.
Our aim for the people of Highland Perthshire is for:
Young people to have opportunities to expand their personal,
social and educational development, enabling them to gain a voice
in their community.
Adults to have access to lifelong learning through community
based opportunities including literacy, numeracy, ICT and personal
and social development.
Communities to develop the skills and understanding required to
influence decision making and service delivery.
What We Hope to Achieve
For Young People:
- Develop youth opportunities through various youth led
projects
- Continue to promote the use of accredited awards and support
young people to achieve these
- Provide Smart Thinking/Aspirational type courses
- Develop and sustain the Youth Forum
- Gather and make appropriate information available to young
people
- Develop Rehearsal Spaces in Highland Perthshire
- Develop Rock Steady and Breathe in Aberfeldy
- Develop a dance and drama project in Pitlochry
- Use mobile resources like Youth In Tent and Buzz Bus to engage
with young people across Highland Perthshire
For Adults:
- Sustain current Adult Literacies support and English for
Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for adults in the Pitlochry
area
- Deliver basic computing tuition throughout Highland
Perthshire
- Provide personal and social development programmes
- Develop web based 'Memories' project throughout Highland
Perthshire
- Provide 'Options 4 U' Adult guidance drop-in sessions
For Communities
- Develop a community website in partnership with community
groups
- Raise the profile of the partnership and what it can offer
- Support individuals and community groups to enable them develop
their services to improve the quality of life in Highland
Perthshire
- Support partners to develop programmes for young people and
adults
- Develop the New Church Community Centre in Aberfeldy as a
community resource
- Create inter-generational opportunities for young people and
older people to meet and exchange skills and experiences.
