Beyond the archive
Where else can you find us?
We try and put lots of information about our
collections on these webpages, and sometimes other websites also
carry information about some of our collections. Sometimes,
collections that have been held in other archives make their way
home to us, but their catalogues and indexes remain on the other
archive's websites. Or our users have created useful resources for
others to use
This page outlines the main sites which
offer other finding aids into some of the collections we
hold.
Other Archives
|
The Scottish Archive Network contains
top level finding aids (summaries of what's in the collection) of
most of our council and community collections, as well as
information about the creators of many of the burgh and county
collections.
The easiest way to find information about our collections is to
search using our ARCHON code, which is GB252. To begin, go to http://www.scan.org.uk/catalogue/ |

The NAS holds lots of collections relevant to Perthshire and
Kinross-shire. These include Sheriff court records, large
estate collections and some railway plans. These, and other
collections, can all be searched through via their website. To
begin, go to http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/

Our users
|
Researchers gather information from
several collections about one particular topic, and if we're very
lucky, they keep all the information together to produce useful
finding aids for other users.
A prime example of this is The Handloom Weavers of Perth, which contains
genealogical and social information gleaned, not just from our
records, but a wide variety of sources. |
Pay-per-view

Family history website Ancestry UK have digitised several of
P&KC Archive's collections, which are now available online.
Covering more than 300 years of Scottish history, you can look for
ancestors and download images of documents.
A pay per view service, Ancestry offers the opportunity to those
who can't easily visit the Archive to view some original records.
However, as part of the partnership between Ancestry and P&K
Council, users can access the site for free if they do through
their local Perth and Kinross library
Available collections include
- School Registers of Admission and Withdrawals, 1869-1901
- Perth Militia Survey, 1802
- Register of Deeds, 1566-1811
As with all collections, these will contain gaps in the
information they carry. And they are simply a taste of the
amount and kinds of collections we hold at P&KC Archive.
