Scottish land and society: The Threipland Papers
This project to catalogue the archives of the Threipland family of
Fingask is now complete. The collection details life on their
estates in Perthshire and Caithness, giving an insight into the
social and cultural life of Scottish people over a time span of 600
years.
Around 60 boxes of documents were deposited with Perth &
Kinross Council Archives in 1997 but remained unsorted. Thanks to
an award from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2004, it was possible to
employ a full time archivist to create the first complete
catalogue. The catalogue makes the collection accessible to anyone,
especially those who are interested in social and family
history.
A summary of the Threipland Papers is
available online, and we have also produced an information pack
showing highlights from the collection, and illustrating the
history of the family and the important themes of the
Threipland papers. You can
contact us to get a copy of the information pack. The first
stage of the
Threiplands People database which lists the people
mentioned in the papers is also available.
