Community Archives

We've always thought of ourselves as a Community Archive as much as a Council Archive. We hold Council records, but so do we welcome collections from local individuals, organisations and communities.

We also go out and give talks about the collections to interested groups, and arrange tours, workshops and activities in the Archive searchroom. We're happy to give advice to people who have their own archival collections and can also help you create your own virtual archive!

But now we're planning to take things a wee step further and we're particularly looking at ways to help create collections with minority and younger communities.

So if you or your group would like to discuss how we can work together to ensure the preservation of the histories and cultures of all our communities - send us an email or give us a call. Contact us even if you would simply like to find out more about the ways in which we can work together.

Newly catalogued collections

Fully arranged, listed and newly available (with some restrictions) is the small collection of MS286 Perthshire Writers Group, 1976-2002 which comprises minutes of meetings, membership roll, correspondence and publications.

A basic box list is now available for the correspondence, minutes of meetings and accounts of MS287 League of Friends of Perth Royal Infirmary, 1994-2002

We regularly receive deposits and gifts of archives throughout the year. Some deposits are accruals to our existing collections, while others are new collections or items which relate closely to our existing holdings and help illuminate aspects of life in the region.

Recent accessions and accruals include

  • Typescript and photographs of history and description of Murthly Village, 1966
