The Atholl Experience
The result of meticulous research into the Atholl area is now available at Perth & Kinross Council Archive. John Kerr has devoted the last 45 years to exploring the glens of Blair Atholl, Struan and Tenandry and searching through sources in national and local repositories and the information he has found has now been collated, along with 2700 photographs, so that the histories of the parishes, farms and estates of Atholl can be rediscovered.
The information begins in the 13th century and goes up to the beginning of the 20th century. The Atholl Experience is logically divided into 42 volumes contained in 93 boxes in a mixture of subject and geographical areas. John’s wife, Patricia, undertook the task of transcribing everything onto computer, as well as scanning all the photographs. The result of their combined labours is a rich resource for anyone interested in Atholl in particular and in Scottish History in general.
It is hoped that internet access to elements of the research can be made available in the future and we shall keep you informed of progress through these pages.
