Perth - a place in history

To celebrate Perth 800, P&KC Archive will be regularly posting images of documents that together, illustrate the history of Perth.

Check out our Flickr page to follow our online exhibition.

Beginning with the William the Lion charter, this will be added to over the coming weeks, giving fascinating glimpses into the history of Perth from the 14th century up to the present day.

Choosing which documents to show was difficult. Some, because of their size or condition could not be scanned, while there are certain events where documentation simply does not exist any longer. For example, we do not have any documents relating directly to the Reformation. Consequently, we've chosen documents that we feel offer glimpses into the very many aspects of Perth's past: its political and social life, its trade and industry and its experiences of war and peace.

If you have any comments or information about any of the documents, please feel free to contact us or better still, leave a comment on Flickr
