Letter given under the Privy Seal by King James [II] to the alderman, baillies and community of the burgh of Perth charging them in order to resist the traitors who had horribly murdered his father, that they fortify the burgh with walls and ditches.

James be the grace of god Kyng of Scotts To the Alderman Bailleis and com[muni]te of oure burgh of Perth greting We charge you that for Resisting of the feloune traitours that horribly has murthered oure p[ro]genitoure of ful noble mynde quham god assoilye and sikkernes of youre said burgh ye fortify oure said burgh with wallis fossis and uther wayeis to sikker keping th[er]of bathe with your p[er]sons and guds under the payn and dangere that ye may tyne agin[st] us. And gif ony of swilk traitours or Rebel lours invads you fairly. notifyis that to us and we sal set co[m]petent Remede th[e]rin efter the avise of oure cou[n]seil to the gude & wele of oure said burgh and you the quhilk we desire and trowiss to fynd traist and ferme to us. Given under oure p[ri]ve seel at Edynburgh the sevin day of Marce in the first yeir of oure Regne
