Books Aloud - Themed Storytelling for Adults in Care Homes
This service, which is run in partnership with the Perth club of
Soroptimist International, visits sheltered housing, residential
care homes and nursing homes to share stories with residents.
How does this service work?
Volunteers visit groups of residents with
a themed box of resources, which includes illustrations,
stories and poems; these are read aloud
and circulated for browsing during the session. There is
a reminiscence theme to many of the extracts and residents are
encouraged to share their own stories and talk about their
interests.
Themed boxes include:
- Perth and its History
- Visions of Scotland
- Scotland's Wildlife
- Radio and Film Memories
- Beatrix Potter
- A Stitch in Time
- Spring
- Summer Days
- Autumn
- Winter
- Robert Burns
- Transport
- Street Games
- School Days
- The 1950s
