Libraries supporting literacy

Perth and Kinross Libraries have a member of staff available to supply learners and tutors with resources to help adults to improve their reading, writing and numeracy.

The Literacy Development Officer can:

  • support library users in how to use library services,
  • advise on available resources,
  • arrange for resource collections to be delivered to groups in the community,
  • help support developing readers to read for information and pleasure.

What resources do we have to offer?

  • Books - 'Quick Reads' in fiction and non-fiction available in both standard or large print.
  • Audio packs - containing a printed book with a reading of the book on CD and tape.
  • Educational games - to help with spelling and numeracy.
  • Interactive software - including Wordshark and Numbershark.
  • Internet access - offering access to BBC RaW and other websites.
