Family History at Local Studies
Tracing your family history is now a very popular topic and we
can offer a wide range of resources covering the old area of
Perthshire and the county of Kinross-shire.
The basic sources for Perthshire and Kinross-shire family history
research are listed in our booklet Keekin for Kin (pdf: 2.47MB). This also
provides information about other Council services
offering family history information, together with their
contact details.
You have free access to the website www.ancestry.co.uk in all of Perth and Kinross
libraries when you book onto one of the People's Network
machines. The site now contains indices to all the Scottish Census
data from 1841 to 1901 as well as our in-house newspaper index
for Births and Deaths. New information is being added all of
the time.
Scotland's People vouchers are also available in the department and
they give half price access to this very popular website covering
birth, death, marriage and census data for the whole of Scotland.
If you want to purchase these vouchers please give us a ring
beforehand to check on their availability.
Facilities
We have four microfilm reader printers, which can be booked in
advance by telephone (01738 477062) or email (
localstudies@pkc.gov.uk).
We also have microfiche readers and a standalone computer
for family history sources on CD ROM.
Research
If you are unable to visit the library we can do research on your
behalf. Please contact us by email (
localstudies@pkc.gov.uk)
or letter and we'll give you an indication of what the charge will
be. Full details of how to contact us are contained on our
Enquiry Service page.
Family History Societies
There are several dynamic groups in the local area who can give
advice on Family History. You can access the websites for the North
Perthshire Family History Group and the Tay Valley Family
History Society, by clicking on the External Links on the right
hand side of this page.
