Maps
We hold around 3000 individual sheets, consisting mainly of Ordnance Survey maps of various dates and scales. We also hold some older county maps, road, railway and estate maps, street plans, and archaeological, geological and soil survey maps.

Archaeological maps

County maps
Of the several in our collection, the most useful is James Stobie's Map of Perthshire and Clackmannan of 1783. The scale of an inch to the mile is sufficiently detailed to show individual parish boundaries, farm names, roads etc. As such, it is particularly useful to family historians and high quality colour photocopies can easily be supplied.
Individual colour copies - Charges, excluding postage, are £0.90 for an A4 extract and £1.20 for A3. The whole map can be copied for £36.00. Credit card payment is welcome.
Street maps
These exist for Perth city from 1715 to the present day, though the earliest map of reasonable detail is Rutherford's of 1774. Also particularly useful are Macfarlane's of 1792, which extends to the immediate hinterland, Reid's large-scale map of 1809, and Wood's of 1823. Early street maps also exist for Crieff, Dunkeld and Kinross.
Other maps
We hold geological maps for much of Perthshire and Kinross-shire. However maps covering some areas have been out of print for many years and therefore we do not hold these.
We also have in stock Soil Survey maps, Land Capability maps for both agriculture and forestry, rights of way maps and local authority boundary maps.
Photocopying maps
Any map more than 50 years old can be copied freely.
Ordnance Survey maps (or any map derived from Ordnance Survey mapping, which in effect includes most maps) which are less than 50 years old are still in copyright and must be copied by a member of staff after a Copyright Declaration form has been filled in. Up to four copies of a single A4 extract may be made, with no enlargements or reductions permitted. Copies for planning permission or for the purposes of hillwalking etc are not allowed. Staff and pupils from schools administered by Perth and Kinross Council (we regret that staff and pupils from independent schools are excluded from this) may copy as much as they need, black and white only; if colour copies are required then A4 copies only are permitted.
