YSART VASE

A Unique Birthday Present
This important piece was made by Vincent Ysart as a birthday gift
for his wife during the 1950’s. It is the only known example
of Vasart glass to feature this type of filigree cane decoration
and as such it is a unique example. The fact that the vase was
originally a gift for a family member is also important as it makes
it a very personal work.
Vincent Ysart was a member of the distinguished family of
Spanish glass workers who settled in Perth in the early 1920's
where they were originally employed by John Moncrieffe's
Glassworks. The family, led by father Salvador, was responsible for
the introduction of Monart studio and fancy glass to the
Perthshire glass making scene. After the Second World War some
members of the family established the Vasart range of
glass.
Perth Museum and Art Gallery has the finest collection of Monart
and Vasart glass in public hands.
This vase was purchased for the permanent collection of Perth
Museum and Art Gallery in 2009. The purchase was made possible
due to the support of the National Fund for Acquisitions
administered by National Museums Scotland & The Art
Fund.
More information about the Art Fund can be found on www.artfund.org which
provides details of other objects in the Perth collections acquired
with the assistance of the Art Fund, Britain's leading Art
charity, over the years.
