North Inch elephants
Last updated | 14/09/2010
These circus elephants in the river Tay beside
the North Inch, Perth have attracted a crowd of children who are
enjoying a free show, unrestricted and at close range.
Both the North and South Inches have been used as venues for
travelling circuses, shows and menageries – in the early
years of the 21st century circuses are still regular shows on the
South Inch but no longer with animals.
Perhaps the elephants shown here were part of Bostock’s
Menagerie, a notable event on the North Inch at the end of the
19th century.
