The Mammal Collection
Last updated | 31/08/2010
Perth Museum and Art Gallery has a very large collection of mammal
specimens from Britain and around the world. These have been
collected in a variety of ways from donations by people who had
large collections of hunting trophies to road casualties that have
been handed in by members of the public. Most British
land mammals are represented in the collection as skins,
mounted specimens or as skeletons (mounted or boxed). Occasionally
unusual specimens may find their way into the collection including
two racoons, one shot near Loch Lomond by a gamekeeper and the
other found dead by the A9.
The museum has mammal specimens from abroad including koala,
old world monkeys, armadillo, snow leopard skin and lion skin.
