Parent Involvement

The Parental Involvement Act was passed by the Scottish Parliament on 10 May 2006.  It aims to support and encourage more families to become involved in the education of their children.

"A once in a generation chance to take a fresh look at how parents are involved in their children's learning and in schools more generally."
Robert Brown, Deputy Minister for Education and Young People.

A leaflet, A New Law to Support Parents [pdf 535KB], has been produced by the Scottish Executive, which explains more about the new legislation.  We have also produced our own newsletter [pdf 123KB] for parents.  Both the New Law to Support Parents [pdf 493KB] and the newsletter [pdf 76KB] are available in Polish.

We are currently working on plans to set up new Parent Councils in schools and develop a Parental Involvement Strategy.  Parents will be consulted throughout on both of these.
