Closures in severe weather
Last updated | 02/12/2008
Education & Children's Services is required to ensure that each school is open to pupils for a period of 190 days in any school year, except where prevented by circumstances outwith their control, such as severe weather conditions.
The decision to close the school due to severe weather rests with the Headteacher (or nominated deputy), taking into account information of the individual local circumstances. All schools have a system to deal with emergency closures and have an emergency closure plan.
