How do I find out information about my local schools ?
All schools publish a handbook and a school improvement plan each year. The handbook gives general information about the school. The school improvement plan gives a snapshot of the school's achievements over the past year. Both the handbook and the school improvement plan are available from the school
When should I register my child for primary school?
The school entry date in Perth and Kinross is the first day of the school session (next year it is Tuesday 19 August 2008). A child is of compulsory school age on the first school entry date from his fifth birthday. If his fifth birthday falls on or before the last day in February, he may attend school from the previous August, or alternatively, his parents may delay his registration until the beginning of the next school session.
Parents will be notified in December by advertisement in the local press to register their children in the school of their choice by a given date, normally the end of January. They will be invited to contact the Headteacher for further information about registration arrangements.
Early Registration
Parents who enquire about the possibility of early registration (ie, of children whose fifth birthday falls after the last day of February) should note that early entry is discouraged, but are advised to contact Education & Children's Services, Pullar House, 35 Kinnoull Street, Perth, PH1 5GD for details of the special appeals procedure whereby such requests are considered.
How will my child be placed in a school?
Each school has a defined zone known as a catchment area, and offers places in that school to pupils resident within that area.
What is a placing request?
Parents have a right to make a request that their child be placed in a school of their choice, other than the school which normally serves the area in which they reside. This is known as a placing request.
