ECO Schools
Perth & Kinross is one of the most successful Council areas in Scotland in promoting environmental awareness through the 'ECO Schools' Award Scheme managed by 'Keep Scotland Beautiful'.
All of our schools are registered with the Scheme with a significant number having obtained the prestigious 'Green Flag' award. Many more have obtained bronze and silver flags.
The Eco Schools Programme is a European and International programme with developments in Africa encouraging schools to act to support sustainable development.
An Eco School award is given to schools when they have met certain criteria. There are 3 levels of award - Bronze, Silver and Green Flag. Bronze and Silver are self-evaluated. Green flag is assessed by external assessors.
There are 7 key elements schools need to undertake before applying for an award:
- The Eco-Committee
- The Environmental Review
- The Action Plan
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Linking to the Curriculum
- Involving the whole school and wider community
- The Eco-Code
Further details concerning the Eco Schools Programme can be obtained from the Eco Schools Scotland website.
