Youth Services City Base

Last updated | 15/09/2008

Youth Services City Base Team is an information and counselling service for young people run with young people.

Since opening its doors, the project has received approximately 22,000 enquiries, the most common about travel, volunteering abroad, employment, health and housing.

Staff deal within individual enquiries as well as training young people in the use of equipment available.  Other aspects of the work include group work, issue-based work and working with the project's Youth Advisory Group to ensure that the City Base continues to be in tune with young people's needs and issues.

At the very heart of the city base team is the involvement of volunteers, their input is often the driving force of many projects such as young rock concerts and window displays.  Many volunteers become involved in the City Base as a step towards eventually gaining employment.  Others use it as a stop-gap between jobs or during school/college holidays.

The City Base offers volunteers a range of different opportunities: from gaining self-confidence, to practising and learning new skills, becoming part of a team, making new friends and acquiring a reference at the end of their stay.  Volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities - general administration, word processing, research, updating and gathering information.

We also provide a massive information resource for all young people across Perth and Kinross which can be accessed directly through the City Base or by contacting the local Youth Workers.
