Council Housing

Perth & Kinross Council owns and manages around 7,500 residential properties for rent.  These properties range from one bedroom flats to four bedroom houses.  Most of the properties are suitable for people with general needs although there are some sheltered properties and other types of amenity housing.  Around half of the Council's letting stock is located in Perth itself with the remainder spread across the Council area.

In April 2009 the Scottish Government announced that it was supporting the Council's bid for £650,000 towards almost £3 million being invested by the Council in building 26 new homes for families in Perth and Kinross. The homes are expected to be built in 2010/11

Council housing is allocated on the basis of need to applicants on the Common Housing Register.  Applications are assessed in terms of the Council's Allocations Policy and are then held, in order of priority, on a waiting list for their preferred area.  There is an excess demand for Council Housing and at this time, there are over 5,000 applicants on the Common Housing Register waiting list.

The Council is currently reviewing the Allocations Policy. To see a draft version of the new policy, and comment on whether it is understandable, please visit the Council housing - tenancy and allocations page of this website.
