Repairs and Maintenance
As your landlord, the Council has a legal duty to ensure that your home is wind and watertight. The Council must also maintain installations in your home providing gas, water, electricity and drainage.
There are some repairs that you may have to carry out yourself and you should refer to pages 31-35 of your Tenant's Handbook for further details; you can download the Tenant's handbook using the link to the right.
You are responsible for the contents of your home and these are not covered by the buildings insurance held by the Council. It is your responsibility to insure your home's contents and it is advisable that you do so.
Any gas appliances owned or leased by the Council must be checked for safety annually and serviced when required. It is essential that you allow engineers access to your home for this purpose.
As well as responding to your request for repairs, the Council plans and provides regular maintenance to keep the external fabric in as good a condition as possible. As and when planned maintenance work is due to be carried out on your home, we will let you know what we intend to do, and when.
