Your Rent

Your rent is assessed annually at the beginning of the financial year (which starts on 1 April and ends on 31 March).  The calculation to set rent levels is based on the size and type of house and the facilities provided, like central heating.

The only other time your rent may change is after improvements or modernisation or when a new service is introduced, such as caretaking.  You will be notified in writing, four weeks in advance, of any increase in the weekly rent.

The rent of your home (as stated in your tenancy agreement) is due weekly, in advance.  Monthly payment is also required in advance. Take care to avoid falling into arrears.

Rent Arrears

If you do not pay your rent regularly it's likely that arrears will mount up. If, for any reason, you find it difficult to pay your rent, please contact your area office as soon as possible.

If you don't pay your rent, or fail to stick to any repayment agreement, the Council may have no option but to raise court action which may incur costs, at your expense.

Non-payment of rent may result in you losing your home.

If you have a query about an aspect of your rent, you should contact your local housing office.  Alternatively, email the nature of your enquiry to housingrents@pkc.gov.uk
