Housing Options Scheme
Whether you are looking to apply for housing with the Council for the first time, or you are a current tenant looking to move to another property, you will first be offered a Housing Options interview with a trained Housing Officer from your local area housing team.
During a one-to-one confidential discussion you and the Housing Officer will be able to look at your realistic chances of being offered the kind of housing you are looking for from the Council. This will include a discussion about your housing needs, such as whether you need a bigger house to combat overcrowding, or to move in to a different property type (such as a one-floor property) to manage a health issue or disability.
The discussion will also include a look at the number of vacancies of the property type/size you need, and in the areas you are looking to move to, to give you an idea about the length of time you may have to wait.
Of course Council housing is not the only option available and as part of your Housing Options meeting you will also be encouraged to look at different ways of accessing housing, including renting from a private landlord or a specialist housing association, or buying your own home through a low cost ownership scheme.
