Homeless Voice
The Homeless Voice Group is made up of residents and providers
of temporary accommodation, and homeless support services in Perth
and Kinross.
Sparked by an email from The Salvation Army's Skinnergate
Lifehouse recommending the benefits of involving homeless people in
implementing the Perth & Kinross Council's
Homelessness Strategy, the group began life at the start of
2010.
Representatives from Skinnergate, CATH, Wellbank House,
Greyfriars House, Rio and support services in the Council's Housing
& Community Care teams, have been regular attendees at
meetings. Perth College, the Drug and Alcohol Team and the
community dietician, have also been involved.
The meetings take place in the Gannochy Training Suite, a hidden
gem located in King Edward Street, which is run by the Salvation
Army. The Homeless Voice Group has already hosted a Residents?
Academy to enable people to develop skills and confidence in
helping improve services and two attendees went on to take part in
accredited learning as result.
The Homeless Voice Group meets every 6-8 weeks and is now ready
to plan other activities to allow greater involvement of people who
are homeless or who are living in temporary accommodation.
