Owner-Occupation
Around 70% of households in Perth & Kinross live in a property that is owner-occupied. Owner-occupation has become increasingly popular over the last few decades and various initiatives and economic factors have meant that buying a property is realistic option for a larger number of people.
Right to Buy for Council tenants was introduced in 1980 and has been very popular with around 51% of Perth & Kinross Council's stock having been sold to sitting tenants to date. More recently, there have been a variety of low-cost home ownership (LCHO) initiatives which have improved access to owner-occupation for people with modest incomes. Shared Ownership and Homestake are the two most common examples of LCHO.
