Housing Grants

Maintaining a house or flat in good condition is ultimately the responsibility of the owner(s). It is in their interest to make sure that necessary repairs and improvements are carried out, to keep the home in good condition and maintain its value.

The government and Scottish Ministers are however committed to making sure that everyone has decent, affordable housing.  It is recognised that some people cannot afford to pay for the work needed to keep their home in good condition so grants may be available to help. Poor housing can affect people's health, it may be a danger to the public and it has a negative effect on the local environment.

Grants for improvement and repair of houses and flats are given at the discretion of the Council, under a framework set by law.  If you own a property that is the subject of a Repairs Notice then you are currently entitled to a statutory Grant of at least 50% of the cost of the work required.
