Home Fire Safety Visits
Tayside Fire and Rescue are actively involved in trying to reduce the number of deaths that occur in the home as a result of fire. Through their dedicated team of Community Safety Officers, they provide information on the dangers of fire and advice and assistance on ways to reduce and prevent fires from occurring in the first place.
As part of this commitment, Tayside Fire and Rescue offer a FREE 'Home Fire Safety Visit' service which is carried out by fire fighters from your local fire station.
This safety check looks at all areas of accident and fire risk within your home. Smoke alarms will be fitted free of charge if required. Information is also provided on the safe use and disposal of smoking materials, candles, heaters, electric blankets and dangerous substances. In addition, help will be provided to prepare an escape plan to prepare you should a fire occur in your home.
If you are a private tenant, you do not need your landlord's permission to make use of this service. Some of the recommendations from the visit however, may have implications for your landlord so you may wish to notify your landlord of the outcome of the visit.
Private landlords can also access the service free of charge. If a property is occupied however, you need to get the tenant's consent to allow access to the fire fighters.
You can access the service in a variety of ways;
Home Fire Safety Visits will be carried out by pre-arranged appointment only and will be carried out by fire fighters in uniform and in possession of an identification card.
