Sheltered Housing

Sheltered housing gives older people the independence of having their own accommodation with the security of having an alarm system and a warden.  Sheltered properties are usually small self-contained units or single rooms in a complex, which often has a communal social area.  It is possible to find sheltered housing to rent or to buy.

Perth & Kinross Council has around 680 sheltered properties for rent.  These are located throughout the area and consist of a range of cottages, self-contained units and complexes.  In addition, several Housing Associations offer sheltered housing for rent or shared ownership.  You may wish to contact the Housing Associations directly with regard to sheltered housing as some of them have their own unique application systems.

If you are interested in applying for Council sheltered housing, you should complete and submit a common housing register application form.  Following receipt of your application, an assessment will be undertaken to determine your level of need for sheltered housing.

If you wish to discuss your housing needs, you should contact your local Area Housing Team or the Central Allocations Team.  Staff will be happy to advise you of your options and help you to complete an application form if necessary.

For further information about sheltered housing, you may wish to visit the Shelter website.
