Supporting People
"Supporting People" is a government initiative concerned with providing housing support services. It was introduced in April 2003. Its aim is to provide quality services, focused on the needs of users, to enable vulnerable people to live independently in the community, in all types of accommodation and tenure.
Help available varies from general counselling and support to help with budgeting and making welfare benefits claims, and filling out forms. Direct personal care, housework and assistance with purely recreational activities are, however, excluded.
Workers provide much needed social contact to people who often struggle to cope on their own.
People who receive Supporting People services may be living in their own homes, or in supported accommodation such as sheltered housing.
Support is delivered by statutory and voluntary organisations to people living in Perth and Kinross.
There is no need for designation into a particular client group for support to be received.
