Public entertainment licence

A public entertainment licence is needed when members of the public pay admission to or pay to use any facilities for the purposes of entertainment or recreation.

The Council has decided that licences may be required in respect of these premises:

  •  Educational Establishments (while not being used as such)
  •  Bowling Alleys
  •  Leisure and Sports Centres
  •  Athletic or Sports Grounds (while not being used as such)    
  •  Public and Private Halls
  •  Dance Halls
  •  Church Halls (while not being used wholly or mainly for the purposes connected with the religious body owning or occupying the Hall) 
  •  Discotheques
  •  Proprietary Clubs eg bingo clubs
  •  Barn Dances
  •  Marquees
  •  Amusement Arcades      
  •  Community Centres             
  •  Licensed Premises within the meaning of  the Licensing (Scotland) Act, 1976 outwith the permitted hours within the meaning of the Act
  •  Ice Rinks 
  •  Roller Skating Rinks 
  •  Shooting Galleries 
  •  Circuses/Fairs
while they are being used for the following classes of activities open to the public:

  •  The playing of machines for amusement with prizes  
  •  Discos
  •  The playing of video games     
  •  Roller Discos
  •  Ice Skating       
  •  Dances
  •  Ice Curling       
  •  Barn Dances
  •  Roller Skating       
  •  Concerts
  •  Shooting        
  •  Rock Concerts
  •  Billiards/Snooker/Pool      
  • Acid House Parties
  •  Bowling        
  •  Circuses/Fairs
