Petroleum (storage of) licence
The petroleum licensing authority is Perth & Kinross Council
(Trading Standards) who are responsible for ensuring safety at
sites where petrol is delivered, stored and dispensed.
The keeping of petrol must be in accordance with conditions
attached to a licence issued under the Petroleum (Consolidation)
Act 1928. When an Inspector appointed by the licensing authority
visits a petrol filling station the aim is to ensure that safety
standards are being observed and where necessary
improved.
Where a new facility is proposed which is concerned in the
storage and delivery of petroleum, an application must be made to
the Council for planning approval as well as approval by Trading
Standards under the Petroleum (Consolidation) Act 1928. Only
following those approvals can building start and during the
construction process Trading Standards must be kept informed of
progress and any changes made to the approved plans.
