Welcome to Perth and Kinross Council’s Trading Standards Service. The Trading Standards Service of Perth & Kinross Council carries out a wide range of statutory duties in the sphere of consumer protection. The legislation enforced is aimed at ensuring a fair and equitable trading environment in which responsible businesses can succeed and consumers are protected from unfair trading practices. Our aim is to safeguard consumers, local business interests and visitors to the area by effectively and efficiently promoting a fair, safe and healthy trading environment.

To safeguard consumers, local business interests and visitors to the area by effectively and efficiently promoting a fair, safe and healthy trading environment for the benefit of the community

Vision

To secure a fair, safe and healthy trading environment for those living, working, trading and at leisure in Perth and Kinross by: 

  • Encouraging and supporting businesses with clear, concise and consistent advice and assistance to enable them to trade fairly and safely while actively discouraging unfair or unsafe trading practices.
  • Analysing local information sources to efficiently target resources towards local consumer and trading concerns.
  • Providing an easily accessed consumer complaints and enquiries service to advise and assist with consumer problems and to promptly investigate alleged trading malpractices.
  • Promoting greater awareness of consumer protection and trading standards in the community.
  • Ensuring high standards of animal health and welfare in the feeding, keeping, transportation and handling of livestock.
  • Protecting young people by the effective enforcement, advice and education on the sale of age restricted products.
  • Maintaining an effective licensing and enforcement regime in respect of the storage of poisons, petroleum, explosives and fireworks.
