Building Standards Certification Schemes
Last updated | 09/12/2011
With the aim of improving standards in the building industry and
assisting the public in the building warrant process, the Scottish
Building Standards Division at the Scottish Government have
approved schemes of certification. There are two strands to
certification:-
1. Certification of Design - schemes
developed under this heading are used to assist in the submission
of building warrant applications. At present there are two schemes
approved under this heading:
- Certification of Design (Building Structures)
- Certification of Design (Section 6 - Energy)
2. Certification of Construction -
schemes approved under this heading are for organisations that
are actually certifying the competancy of the work on site for
compliance with the building regulations. At present there are two
schemes approved under this heading:
- Certification of Construction (drainage, heating and
plumbing)
- Certification of Construction (electrical installations)
There is a dedicated website, Scottish Building
Services Certification, which provides full information on
the operation of these schemes together with the benefits that can
be achieved by using such schemes.
