What is Building Standards
Building Standards has been around in one form or another for centuries. The overriding purpose of building standards is to safeguard people in and around buildings. In addition we are required to ensure that the design of buildings considers the conservation of fuel and that they meet the needs of people with disabilities. This is achieved through the application of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations 2004.
The main duties of building standards are
- processing applications for building warrant
- inspection and testing of new drainage
- verifying completion certificate submissions
- processing applications for letters of comfort
- responding to reports of buildings that are considered to be in a dangerous condition or in serious disrepair
- responding to reports of unauthorised building operations
- safety of sports ground and temporary raised structures
Our building standards staff form a team which has a broad range of experience in the building industry. We are also fortunate to have many staff who have long service in Perth & Kinross and other councils. This broad experience enables us to offer a friendly, efficient and professional service.
