Noise - Guidance on Home improvements

Last updated | 03/02/2012

The Building Standards Division at the Scottish Government have recently published a useful guidance leaflet which explains the impact that certain home improvements can have on noise transmission between properties.

The leaflet which explains how the current trend of laying laminate or hardwood flooring and/ or installing downlighters and/ or recessed speakers can have a significant impact on the passage of noise from one house/ flat to another is entitled Noise - Guidance on Home Improvements.

In summary, if you want to be a good neighbour, particularly if you live in a flat, you should always consider the impact that making such 'improvements' to your property can have on others.
Beware - bad detailing could seriously damage your relationship with your neighbours.
