Robust Details Scottish Type Approval Scheme
(STAS) Launch
Derek Mackay Scottish Government Planning Minister has
formally launched the STAS approval of the Robust Details method of
meeting sound insulation requirements for new homes. Although new
to Scotland, Robust Details have been successfully operating for a
number of years in other parts of the UK.
This is a welcome move which, if adopted by developers,
will improve both consistency and quality in terms of the
levels of sound resistance achieved between homes and thus lead to
improved quality of life.
The main benefits to developers are:-
- the system uses a series of standard details which can be
incorporated into the design process,
- STAS approval means that these details will be universally
accepted by all 32 Scottish Local Authority Building
Standards,
- using approved details will result in building warrant
applications being processed quicker, and
- replaces the need for pre completion noise
testing.
