Abernethy Conservation Area
Why are we consulting the public on the Abernethy Conservation
Area Appraisal?
All Councils are required to formulate and publish, from time to
time, proposals for the preservation and enhancement of any parts
of their district which are conservation areas.
The Abernethy Conservation Area was first designated in 1970,
and then extended in 1994. The review of the Abernethy
Conservation Area reflects recent and ongoing development
pressures, the opportunities presented by the forthcoming Tay
Landscape Partnership Scheme and the fact that a substantial period
of time has passed since the original designation.
We have produced a draft conservation area appraisal which
updates the original information from 1970.
What is Conservation Area Appraisal?
A Conservation Area Appraisal is a management tool which helps
to identify the special character and changing needs of an area. It
serves as supplementary guidance to the local development plan and
assists development management.
If a conservation area's special character has been clearly
defined and published in an appraisal then this definition can be
used to guide the form and design of new development and will
assist those proposing to invest in the area.
How can I have my say?
We consulted the public, local community groups and national
bodies on the draft Abernethy Conservation Area Appraisal and
proposed boundary changes between 9 January and 13 February
2012.
What will happen next?
We will consider the responses. The draft conservation
area appraisal and boundary may be amended to take account of these
views, where they can be given sufficient weight.
It is proposed that the finalised appraisal and boundary will be
reported to the Enterprise and Infrastructure committee for
approval in March 2012. When the conservation area is
formally designated it will be advertised in the local and national
press and notified to Scottish Ministers to accord with the
requirements of the Planning (Listed Building and Conservation
Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997.
