Tay Estuary Forum
What is the Forum?
The Tay Estuary Forum brings together organisations and individuals with a common interest in the welfare of the Tay Estuary and adjacent coastline. A Steering Group, comprising representatives from key organisations, meet regularly to manage the direction and progression of the work of the Forum, and a Secretariat based at the University of Dundee, run the day-to-day workings.
Who can participate?
Individuals and organisations are encouraged to participate in themed groups: Water Quality, Fishing and Economic Development to Recreation, Nature Conservation and Education.
It is hoped that through improved co-ordination and communication between these diverse interests, future conflicts within the coastal zone can be resolved efficiently and effectively and that management will progress towards a common vision.
Is there a plan?
The Tay Estuary Forum have recently launched a five- year Management Plan: a non-statutory document aimed at promoting future sustainable management in the Tay Estuary and along the adjacent coastline. The plan was drafted over 2008/9 following discussions at the annual TEF conference and a period of consultation, attracting input from a wide range of stakeholders and individuals.
The Management Plan covers the region from the River North Esk on the Angus Coast to Fife Ness; including the Tay Estuary to Scone. It aims to unite the many initiatives operating along this diverse stretch of coast into a sustainable framework, ensuring future vitality of the region. Management Plans are currently being distributed in and around the TEF region over the forthcoming months. Over the next year, the TEF will be working to implement Year 1 Actions listed in the Management Plan and progress will be reported on at the 2010 conference.
