Community Greenspace, part of The Environment Service of Perth and Kinross Council, have a responsibility to manage, maintain and develop parks and open spaces across Perth and Kinross to meet the recreational needs of visitors and residents.

Larghan Park

Larghan Park is a large, 8.2 hectare park situated to the east of Coupar Angus and adjacent to the A85. It contains play facilities including a skate park and caters for football and cricket. It contains a privately operated (by CARA - Coupar Angus Recreation Association) multisport court suitable for 5-aside football and tennis. Mature trees line the park boundary with a small area of beech woodland at the east end of the park.

Gifted to the community in 1945, the park soon became a bustling destination visited by people from across Strathmore. Recreational facilities including an 18 hole putting green, 9 hole pitch and putt course, paddling pool and amenity facilities were introduced in the late 1950’s. Coupled with the park’s location and large car parking areas, it was popular for many years. Sadly, due to changes in contemporary leisure trends, failing and unchallenging play facilities and new legislation concerning water play, park user numbers have steadily declined over the past twenty years.

Larghan Park, Management and Master Planning

Perth and Kinross Council have a Master Plan and Management Plan (17mb)  for the site. The Master Plan graphically represents the developmental aspirations of the Management Plan as agreed between the Council and local community.

The Management Plan accompanying the Master Plan provides detailed information on how the park is currently managed and provides the context and rationale for the development proposals. Although the plan focuses on the parks management over the next 5-10 years, reviews of the action plan will be carried out annually. Should new development proposals arise, these will be assessed within the context of the recommendations and agreed plans, policies and/or procedures included in the plan.
