Parks and Open Spaces
The Perth and Kinross covers an area of 2,200 square miles and
possesses a landscape of exceptional beauty and diverse character
ranging from Highland Summits, Glens and Lochs to the river
corridors in broader lowland landscapes. This landscape of
mountain, water, farmland and forest is renowned as a clean and
green environment which attracts many visitors.
Parks and green spaces managed by the Council add to the quality of
life of the 122,000 residents in the area and enhance the visitor
experience. These areas remain a focal point for communities and
their importance to people's everyday lives is widely recognised.
All our parks are freely accessible at all times and we wish to
maximise their use.
The wide range of parks and greenspaces in the Perth and Kinross
area differ greatly in size, character and the facilities they
offer. They include parks of regional significance such as Crieff's
MacRosty Park; extensive quality greenspaces such as Perth's North
Inch and Riverside Park adjacent to the River Tay and small but
much visited sites such as Beatrix Potter Garden in Birnam. Green
corridors, such as the network of open space areas adjacent to
Perth's Town Lade, are valued for providing traffic free routes
between residential areas and the town centre.

Destination Parks and gardens
We have eight main parks which, due to their facilities or
location, attract visitors from far and near.
Settlement Parks
There are approximately 40 Neighbourhood Parks within
settlements of more than 1500 people which serve a local area and
provide community places for enjoyment and relaxation. They will
include children's play areas and either sports pitches or large
areas of grass.
Local
Perth and Kinross has approximately 50 settlements in rural
areas with a population less than 1500. The local greenspace in
these areas can range from village greens to small parks which will
include children's play areas and other amenities.
Management
Park Management
The general management of parks and open spaces is the
responsibility of Community Greenspace who form part of the Public
Space Management Section within The Environment Service
(TES).
Community Greenspace's Parks Development team address the strategic
direction of park management along the guidelines being developed
by Greenspace Scotland and underpinned by the Green Flag Award
objectives.
A key aspect of park management is community engagement and Friends
of Park groups ensure a dialogue between members of the local
community with an interest in their park and council officers
responsible for its management.
In addition to direct liaison with the Friends, general community
feedback on all concerns about the park and its management is
welcomed. Please phone 01738 475000 for our Enquiry System which
records all enquiries and complaints and ensures that they are
responded to.
PKC is committed to creating a sustainable and attractive park
environment and to ensuring that the high maintenance standards
required for this park are sustained. The Green Flag Award is the
recognised standard for quality green spaces in Britain and we are
working towards ensuring that our principal parks meet Green Flag
Standards.
