Play Areas in Perth and Kinross

Equipped Play Areas are important places where youngsters can have a good time and where parents can meet one another. Perth and Kinross Council aims to :

  • provide a stimulating play environment in an attractively landscaped setting that is fun to use, and pleasant to look at.
  • Ensure that children can get safely from where they live to where they play
  • provide a range of active and imaginative play equipment for the full range of children who are likely to use it.

There are 161 equipped play areas in the Perth & Kinross area. These are classified into the following four types according to location and extent of equipment:

  • 7 Premier Play Areas
  • 28 Neighbourhood Play Areas
  • 67 Local Play Areas and
  • 59 Rural Play Areas

How you can help

  • encourage people to use playgrounds
  • come up with ideas for the improvement of playgrounds and discuss them with other people in the community, including the local community council; and think about ways of raising funds to help the project along the way. Typically a community-led playground project will take two to three years to bring about.
  • report any one who you know to be vandalising play equipment - phone 01738 475000 or contact the local police in confidence. This is very important: it spoils our children's enjoyment and wastes money.
  • if you do spot any problems with a playground or playground equipment please phone 01738 475000.

Maintenance of play areas

The safety of equipment in play areas are checked and playgrounds cleaned on a regular basis to ensure play areas are safe, well maintained and pleasant to use.

If you notice any damage or vandalism to equipment, you can report this online or telephone the Customer Service Centre on 01738 476476 with the following details:

  • Location of the play area;
  • Details of damaged / vandalised play equipment;
  • When you noticed damage happened.
