Volunteering with Community Greenspace
Last updated | 11/01/2012
Community Greenspace is fortunate to have a great many people
that are willing and able to give up some of their time to help get
involved with the management of some of the areas that we look
after.
We are always keen to welcome more willing volunteers on board! The
work of volunteers is essential in many ways to the management and
success of local green spaces. The Countryside Ranger Service
estimate that there are well over 20 weeks of additional work
achieved each year through the Conservation Volunteers Team
alone - thats like having an extra member of staff for 6
months!
There are lots of ways you can get involved;
Join the Conservation Volunteers
The Perth and Kinross Conservation Volunteers (run by the Ranger
Service) organises activities throughout
the year where members get involved in practical
tasks or attend training or workshops to support them in their
voluntary role.
Join a group with an interest
There are lots of groups that have an active interest in an area
of Community Greenspaces work, from User Groups (such as the
Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park User Group) to Friends of Parks Groups
(such as the Friends of Victoria Park, Aberfeldy). These groups
meet under their own steam, and work with the Community greenspace
on issues of joint interest.

The "in bloom" groups work under the Perth & Kinross Council
campaign banner name of "Take a Pride in Perthshire". The
volunteer groups each have their own identity and work closely with
Council staff across a range of Services. They participate in
three main arenas of activity – horticulture, community
participation and environmental responsibility. Collectively
the groups administer an area wide charity called the "Take a Pride
in Perthshire" Association.
The Perth & Kinross Outdoor Access Forum
The Forum is a voluntary group with a limited membership
of 16 and has a statutory role in access under the Land Reform
(Scotland) Act 2003. Anyone can apply for membership and can attend
the annual open meeting and election held in early May.
