Ranger service

What is the the Countryside Ranger Service? Logo of the Perth and Kinross Ranger Service. The logo is used across Scotland and depicts three symbolistic trees or mountains with a group of people standing in front.

The Countryside Ranger Service is made up of four area Countryside Rangers, one Greenspace Ranger and two Senior Rangers. The Countryside Rangers are based at Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy, Creiff and Perth and cover the East Perthshire, Highland Perthshire, Strathearn, Creiff and Comrie, and the Perth, Carse and Kinross-shire areas respectively.

The Greenspace Ranger is a new post, covering the Perth City area, and aims to provide and promote opportunities for the people of Perth to get out and about in their local green spaces.

The Senior Rangers manage these teams and have responsibility for west and east Perth and Kinross - the A9 being an approximate boundary.

What do the Rangers do?

Rangers look after paths and sites, such as Lady Mary's Walk and Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park, and other areas which the Council does not own, such as paths that make up one of the many path networks. Countryside Rangers visit schools to talk to school groups, we have groups out in the Countryside, we arrange walks, talks and events and visit various highland games and shows to promote the Countryside of Perth and Kinross.

Rangers are part financed by Scottish Natural Heritage and have an agreed work programme for each year.
